WHY I BOUGHT IT: I've had this printer for only two days but here are my initial reactions: I can't compare this machine with other 3-in-1's. I come from having three separate units to handle print, fax, and scan, so the 3-in-1 (four with copy) is a pleasure both for functionality and space saving. I've been a pretty loyal HP user, but I switched to this Brother this time because of the comparatively high reader scores on Amazon, because Consumer Reports gave it good grades, because ink costs are relatively low compared to many others especially inkjets, because I don't expect to give it heavy use and the laser toner will not dry up over time. For color and photos I still retain my old excellent HP photo printer, or I can head to the Copymat store, so I didn't see the need for color on this one.

SETUP: Setup on the home network was fairly easy. Wired hookup to the main computer was basically plug and play, but getting the networked computer to recognize the new printer took some detective work. Ultimately I had to search through the on-disk documentation (as opposed to the printed User's Guide) to figure it out. I knew I had to set the printer driver on the "share" position in Windows, but I learned that I also had to change the network setting on the printer itself, via the printer's menu. Had this been explicit in either the Start Here or User's Guide (maybe it's there, but I didn't see it), I would have been saved some frustration.

USING IT: The fax worked right away even though I do not have a dedicated fax line and my only line is hooked to an answering machine - a common situation I imagine. The explicit directions on how to deal with the answering machine question made it a no-brainer. The fax machine now recognizes a fax tone coming in, but otherwise lets the answering machine take the call. Use is intuitive and straightforward in all functions. The Control Center is basic enough to dig right in for quick use without having to slog through the User's Guide for most operations. The smart scanning software has basic use at the front but has advanced controls should you need them. The Control Center software is much more user-friendly than the scanning software I was using for my Epson scanner. As indicated in other reviews, the LCD screen is absurdly small and not nearly bright enough to see easily, even at the highest contrast setting, but once setup is completed, I suspect there is infrequent need to refer to it.

I wouldn't recommend the machine if you need batch printing of envelopes. The manual paper feeder accepts only one envelope or sheet of labels at a time, and to avoid crinkled copies one must open up the back - an inconvenient step depending on the position of the printer. Feeding one envelope without opening up the back sends the envelope through the main print loop and produces an envelope with some creases but suitable for casual, not business, use. For this reason alone, I gave the rating 4 stars as opposed to 5, since occasionally it would be convenient to print more than one envelope or label page at a time. The fan noise others have complained about does not bother me. I hear it, but it is not loud or annoying to me, and only lasts for several minutes before it goes into a "deep sleep" (no snoring observed yet).

SUMMARY: Overall, this is a very nice machine. It does what it says, quickly, quietly, efficiently. It prints crisp, clean text as one expects of laser printers, and cranks out about 20 ppm. Scanning docs including color photos are amazingly clear and true. I recommend this unit. If I have further comments after I give it more use, I'll update.

UPDATE (12/19/11): Now that I've used the machine for a little over a month, I can say I find it a pleasure to use for all functions. While I can't figure out a way to print more than one envelope or label sheet at a time and they must be fed manually, the trick to printing wrinkle-free is to read the manual (duh), which instructs you not only to open the back but to adjust two green levers down. Once that adjustment is made, envelopes slide through with nary a wrinkle. I know, reading the manual isn't much fun, but once in awhile you learn something. With that caveat, I'm bumping my review to a full five star.

update: 12/18/18 I have been using this printer for 7 years. I have never had a paper jam, Ihave averaged 2,000 - 2,500 pages per Brother cartridge (the big one) and have printer nearly 20,000 pages. Good, reliable, long lasting machine I would buy again. I see there is an update model with wireless.

Needed a replacement printer/fax/scanner so I did some research. I did not want to spend a ton of money so I looked at the lower end models. This Brother had decent reviews so I bought it and am VERY happy with it. The printing is fine, the character font seems a little thin in terms of the character lines, but very clean and acceptable. I am getting a message already that I need to replace the toner and that surprises me, seems like that did not last very long at all... don't have data o # of pages or on time, but it just struck me as that is too soon. Other than that, all is good with the printing. And it prints very fast, as well.

The scanner works just fine, fast and easy to save it to a file.

The fax is also very fast, easy to use. You simply load pages to be faxed face up, hit start and it zips them in to file and then faxes it, very nice, clean and fast. It can be configured to spit out a confirmation page if you wish.

My only single complaint is that the LCD display is chinzy and not well lit and hard to read, really? Just put a display on this that we can read. It's just 2 lines but not very bright and not easy to use, but it's functional.

Overall, I don't typically do reviews but felt this one deserved a statement. I am truly quite happy with the Brother MFC7360N and feel it is a lot of function for a low cost. Good job, hope it's made in USA.

I did little basic research and decided some what quickly. Found that this model laser printer was on average rated at 4 1/2 stars at various sites. I received the printer quite quickly, both the box and the printer enclosed were in great condition. I have hooked it up and used the printer in all the ways available: copy and print using the scanner, printing a pdf through desktop computer, also printed remotely through laptop and Defy cellphone..... worked each and every way. So far so good...will update after few months. The reason I gave all 5 stars, is the fact I have nothing to complain about yet.

***UPDATE*** 2014 It's been almost 2 yrs, and printer is still going strong. All parts function still without flaws. I've had to change the ink once so far, which the ink was purchased at the time I bought the printer. It cost about $45 but may be more present day. I have no complaints as of yet. Speed and quality is the same since date of purchase. I hope to update my review again in a couple more years. ~Cuba

***2nd UPDATE *** 5/2016 This thing is still kicking strong. So far I have printed 2600 pages. I've had to change the ink/toner once since the purchase at about $45. for the toner cartridge, which blows out the inkjet printers by far AND the ink won't run if the paper gets wet. Realize not only is there an ink/toner cartridge but there is a drum to replace at intervals. So far it's still the original drum and it was at 86% life left, as of last month. The pages I was printing were having streaks & showing signs of low ink/toner, so I removed it... shook it up.... & reinstalled it. That redistributes the powder inside, just so the majority of it is used up & I'm able to get the most out of the toner cartridge. After "the shake" the pages printed perfectly again.

Everything still functions; all buttons, scanner, copier, etc. I'm thrilled with the purchase. May I also add, there's a huge difference in price since my purchase in 2012, I've noticed. I only paid $150. + free shipping. Right now it's at $320.... I thought cost would have gone down, especially since it's an older model, not more than double. Just an observation.

***3rd UPDATE*** 3-8-17 The only reason I'm updating this time is due to my 1st issue with the printer. One of the other family members needed to add paper to the tray. Well in doing so, it started not feeding the paper afterwards and giving errors as to still needing paper, when in fact the tray was full. So I checked it out and turned out they may have cocked the tray when reinstalling that 1st time and incidently they broke a tab on the left side of the printer (facing the front). There's a tab that sticks out on the left inner side of the tray and this feeds into the port where the piece broke. So now that piece is not being depressed when tray is installed. This results in the upper gear to not spin and therefore cannot complete the paper loading into the drum and fuser unit (for those that work on these or mechanically inclined). Well, using a pick (I use for transmission seals) I was able to pull the broken tab from left to right and somewhat align the tray's tab to be able to function temporarily or at least until the paper runs out again. This repair did work. I'm providing some images to help those who may be in a similar situation. Hope this helps.

Worth every penny. Excellent technology and a good product. Love the way when it is idle the display just doesn't show "sleep" mode but "deep Sleep" mode. Wakes up pretty quickly too. Wish I could do the same.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to install

Fast delivery. Easy to install. Amazing quality for the price. I expectet way less but was surprised. If you do not need colour...this is your machine.

4.0 out of 5 stars The scanning capabilities are a little too good. Scanning in black and white mode leads to a lot of little imperfections. Never knew too high of a quality would become problematic. Overall great speed and reliability.
