I had shyed away from ordering one of these mid range priced routers in the beginning for whatever reason. I should have known better seeing as though my $39.99 Dilink that died and put me in this predicament was well worth double it's money in age at 6+ years. So I ordered this TP-Link TL-WR941ND and received it in two-day shipping through Amazon Prime. Set-up was fast and easy for me and should be for anyone who may or may not have any experience with a similar product and can read instructions. A install CD is provided and is very straight forward. This was an upgrade to wireless N for me and it is backwards compatible to B/G wireless which is nice for people who may have older hardware. I also bought and am using a TP-Link 150Mbps Wireless-N USB adapter on my old desktop that does not have a wireless card installed and it works and installs as easy as it's big brother. These two peripherals have worked flawlessly for months in our house transmitting wi-fi to a number of wireless units including an Xbox, WII, google TV, droid & I phones not too mention numerous computers. Once in a great while the router itself needs to be reset via unplugging the power and replugging but this is very minimal. The signal is strong and remarkable considering I have this unit installed in the enclosed stairway leading to the basement in our house. I would recommend a TP-Link product to anyone looking for an inexpensive, working alternative for any hardware situation they may have. I was quite impressed with the TP LINK TL-WR914ND. My biggest gripe would have to be the set-up. Which is quite honestly my own stupidity. I spent (literally) 3 hours trying to configure the thing when all I had to do was plug it in! I bought it because I don't have a router or modem in my apartment. All direct connections to the internet are upstairs in my landlord's house. I recently bought (the somewhat temperamental) MagicJack Plus and wanted to use it as a land-line instead of plugging it into my US After the long hours of trying to configure the TP LINK all I had to do was plug in the MagicJack Plus unit and turn the router on. I waited a minute or two and it simply started working! The router required no configuration at all. Whats even better is if you need to unplug and move the router for any reason it takes seconds to get it running itself up again. I must admit I was quite surprised at its simplicity and my own stupidity! The TP LINK TL-WR914ND has been working flawlessly. I've had no problems or issues with the router at all. For the affordable price its well worth it! The unit also includes a quick set-up c.d. and a users manual. You'll end up going directly to the TP LINK website for an easier to follow manual. This is somewhat of an inconvenience and the c.d. (as simple as it is to follow) can be a bit frustrating to use; again this is IF you MUST use it. Despite those inconveniences I'd highly recommend the TP LINK TL-WR01FND. It's very affordable and does exactly what you need it to do! My word of advice to anyone purchasing the unit: turn the power on and plug the unit in to whatever your using it for first. Wait a minute or two, if that doesn't work than resort to configuring the it. Don't throw away three boobless hours like I did! 3 people found this helpful Report Reviewed in the United States on March 21, 2013 UPDATE 9-27-13: Great reliability -- more than 6 months later not a single dropped connection! This was a great buy. With the multitude of reviews here, the main reason I'm adding my voice is point out two things that might interest or help others (the second of which probably isn't specific to the TP-Link). (1) Password oddity: For wireless security, I created an SSID and then chose WPA2-PSK / AES security and created a 22-character password. But after doing this and trying to connect, Windows XP's "acquiring network address" message just kept appearing continuously, and the computer never connected. Tried my other notebook, same result. After trying a couple of different things, I thought, "I know this is a shot in the dark, but let's try a shorter password." So I tried an 8 character password and was surprised when it did in fact connect seamlessly then. Just to double-check that password-length was really the issue, I went back to a 22-word password and again it stuck at "acquiring network address." Tried a 20-character, stuck again. Then tried a 17-character, and it connected fine. I kept that, since I prefer long passwords for security. So that was weird enough. But *after* going through that exercise I noticed that it says right below the password field that the password must be between 8 and 63 characters. Huh?? I'm glad I hadn't noticed that before, otherwise I might not have even tried shortening the password, which I already considered a long-shot. Wonder if this quirk could be unique to my unit, since I haven't seen it mentioned in reviews? EDIT: Just updated to the latest firmware and the odd password-length oddity I described went away. (Be sure to follow the TP-Link website's instructions on how to identify your version and select the right firmware!) (2) Using simultaneously with a computer that has only a 802.11g wireless card: I've seen many people insist that having any G device on the network will slow down the throughput/speed on N devices. Some even say it will reduce the N devices to G speed. While others say there will be little if any effect. Well, I was happy to find that the "little or no effect" people are right. After getting my N-enabled computer on wireless at about 50-60 mbps download (Comcast Performance, which advertises 50mbps in my area -- measured by Speedtest-dot-net at about fifteen unobstructed feet from the TP-Link), I fired up my G-only computer and started streaming a movie. Result: Little, if any, affect on the N-computer's speed :). To test the effect of distance and obstructions, I took my N-enabled computer about 30 feet away, though 2 walls, and the speed went down roughly 15%. While that doesn't sound great to me, it doesn't sound bad either, and it's still more than twice as fast as I was getting before I set up my N network today. And I don't really have any benchmarks to compare to (other N routers)...plus, AFAIK that could possibly be a factor of my notebook's wireless card and internal antennae as well. Overall I'm a happy camper, especially given the price point. Reviewed in Germany on July 30, 2011 Ich habe mich für diesen Router entschieden, nachdem ich meinen Bruder über mögliche in Frage kommende Router ausgefragt hatte. Er hatte mir den Tipp gegegeben, einen N-Router zu kaufen. Diese sollten die neueste Technik haben und sehr zu empfehlen sein. Ich bin somit über dieses Modell bei Amazon gestolpert, nachdem es so viele positive Bewertungen gab. Ich muss wirklich sagen: Ich wurde nicht enttäuscht. Er läuft prima, obwohl er nicht bzw. nicht nur auf einer Ebene zum Einsatz kommt. Ich teile mir einen Anschluss mit meinem Vater, d. h. die Verbindung läuft über zwei Etagen. Zudem haben wir durch unseren Kamin auch noch eine extreme Abschirmung. Trotzdem klappt alles sehr gut. Da der Router momentan noch unter dem Schreibtisch meines Vaters angebracht ist und eigentlich eine ganze Ecke weiter nach oben müsste, um ein besseres Signal zu bekommen, habe ich immer noch 2 von 5 Strichen. Das hört sich nicht nach besonders viel an, aber es ist absolut ausreichend. Nach besserer Anbringung des Routers dürfte die Singalstärke noch um einiges höher sein. Zusätzlich habe ich jetzt auch mein Handy über WLAN verbunden. Die Singalstärke ist hier leider nicht ganz so gut wie beim Rechner, aber absolut ausreichend. Zur Einrichtung des Routers kann ich leider nicht viel sagen. Als Laie bin ich damit leider nicht sooo gut zurecht gekommen, sodass sich mein Bruder des Problems angenommen hat. Ich habe lediglich sehen können, das einige Einstellungen nötig waren. Diese waren leider komplett auf Englisch, sodass ich nicht mal die Hälfte davon verstanden habe. Für meinen Bruder, der schon einige Router eingerichtet hat, war dies natürlich ein Kinderspiel. Ich denke das man für die Installation schon ein wenig Ahnung haben sollte. Aber das dürfte warscheinlich auf alle Router zutreffen. Besonders positiv überrascht war ich von der schnellen Lieferung. Donnerstag bestellt - Samstag mittag da. Eigentlich bei Amazon nicht allzu überraschend, da DHL grundsätzlich schnell liefert. Da Amazon jedoch immer mehr von DHL auf Hermes umsteigt und ich von Hermes bisher alles andere als begeistert war, ist dies schon eine tolle Sache. Top Verarbeitung, Klavierlackoptik. Antennen abnehmbar, Gewinde und Sockel aus Metal. Helle LEDs. Simpelste Einrichtung, CD dabei, ist aber nicht nötig. Unter Windows 7 wird das Teil sofort erkannt, man muss nur eine PIN eingeben (steht unten am Gehäuse) - fertig. Klasse Browser-Menü (192.168.1.1), sehr gute Übersicht, zu jedem Menupunkt ausführliche Hilfe direkt in einem seitlichen Frame. Vor allem kann man, wenn man es braucht, extrem vieles einstellen. Once you know that, it will take you 30 mins to 1 hour MAX to configure your router (depend on your home network protocol and security. I am not an IT consultant at all, but I can find my way around a router and the parameters are easy to understand (in short even a caveman can do it). For now,I can really see the difference in performance between my old WGR614-6VGUKS (freebie from my ISP) and that router.I have in my home 10 wireless devices (G and N devices) communicating with that router and so far...good news everything work perfectly.Needless to say that my old router could not do that properly hence why I brought this router in the first place. so here my good and bad points: Good - Web interface easy and responsive - Good performance - Friendly price - Support Wi-fi protected Setup Bad - The design of the router is terrible (not really bulky), I knew it before I brought it - No dual band support and no Gigabit Ethernet port (which should come as a standard nowadays) Bottom line, if you just want a basic network and have a mix of 802.11n and b/g clients it does the job very well for a very good price (depend where and when you buy of course). I read other comments on others routers from the same manufacturer (even different ones) where after few weeks they noticed some degradation of the router's performance. If that happen to me I will update that review. 4 people found this helpful Report 5.0 out of 5 stars 1A Router, Preis/Leistung unschlagbar Reviewed in Germany on April 27, 2010 Habe inzwischen TP-Link Access Point TL-WA901ND, 5-Port Gigabit-Switch TL-SG1005D, WLAN USB-Adapter 300MBit TL-WN821N und eben dieses Prachtstück den WLAN Router TL-WR941ND. Und das aus gutem Grund! TP-Link, ein unbekannter "noName"-Hersteller aus China, ist keine Qualität, unzuverlässig usw. waren meine ersten Vorurteile, aber weit gefehlt! Habe inzwischen mein komplettes Netzwerk auf TP-Link umgestellt und das geht jetzt richig ab. Doch nun zum Router: Optisch finde ich ihn elegant, nicht zu verschnörkelt oder zu spaceig aber auch nicht zu langweilig. Nirgends klappert etwas, nichts ist wackelig oder wirkt billig. Passt einfach. Konfiguration ist für jemanden der nicht ganz ohne Ahnung ans Werk geht ein Kinderspiel, und ich halte die englische Menüführung für völlig ausreichend, alles selbsterklärend und schön strukturiert. Viele Einstellungsmöglichkeiten, informative Hilfetexte. Hatte in 5min. mein 802.11n-Netz inklusive WPA2, MAC-Filterung und Access Control konfiguriert. Besonders die Accesscontrol finde ich gelungen, damit kann man wirklich alles auf seine Bedürfnisse anpassen, wann wer mit welcher MAC wohin zugreifen darf usw. Auch die Security ist sehr umfangreich anzupassen, im WLAN-Bereich sowie im LAN. Die Sendeleistung ist TOP, habe bis in den letzten Winkel meiner 120m²-Wohnung >=90% Empfang, mit dem Laptop, dem AccessPoint oder dem USB-WLAN-Stick. Ist bei mir an die Fritz!Box angeschlossen, die nur als Modem fungiert, funktioniert problemlos. Nur eines sei erwähnt, falls jemand vor hat WDS zu nützen, den Router gibts mittlerweile in 4 Hardwareversionen, erst ab V4 funktioniert WDS! Ich hab leider V3, es gibt auch keine Möglichkeit WDS irgendwie zum Laufen zu bringen unterhalb von V4, da Veränderungen an der Hardware vorgenommen wurden laut TP-Link-Support. Würde ihn auf jeden Fall sofort wieder kaufen! One person found this helpful Report 5.0 out of 5 stars perfekt...anleitung auf deutsch...in 5min eingerichtet Reviewed in Germany on September 8, 2011 im gegensatz zu anderen usern war bei mir eine anleitung auf deutsch dabei, aber die braucht man in wirklichkeit auch nicht. einfach die mini disc einlegen und dann bekommt man alles gesagt...also wirklich alles!!! welches kabel wo hin, welche lampen an sein müssen und welche blinken müssen, wann man das netzteil anzuschließen hat, passwörter etc.also bei mir war das ganze in fünf min eingerichtet, aber für alle meine pc's...sowas einfaches hab ich noch nie erlebt ( ich bin zwar kein laie, aber auch kein absoluter profi und ich denke jeder kann das ding in 10min anschließen und nicht in 30min wie andere hier schreiben-allerdings weiß ich natürlich nicht wie kompliziert das ohne deutsche anleitung wäre, dass muss ich zugeben....). hab es über nen windows-pc gemacht. HIER NOCH WAS FÜR MACBOOK PRO USER: es gibt zahlreiche foren, wo über die verbindungsprobleme mit älteren macbooks zu w-lan routern geschrieben wird...mit diesem router hat ich diese probleme nicht. er wurde sofort vom macbook pro meiner freundin erkannt und die verbindung steht. mit imac gab es auch keine probleme. hatte vorher einen router von d-link und den hat das macbook nicht gefunden...und nebenbei ist der alle 15min abgestürzt...bevor ich mich mit den kanälen rumquäle hab ich ihn zurückgeschickt und innerhalb von drei tagen war dieser da und ich bin begeistert. hab volles signal innerhalb einer 80qm wohnung (von einer ecke zur anderen)...signal steht bisher auch durchgehend...keine verbindungsabbrüche. über nacht schalte ich per hauptschalter aus, da die geräte keinen separaten an und aus knopf haben, aber das signal ist innerhalb von 1min nach dem anschalten wieder da. |
